Abstract
Background: Varicose veins are veins that has enlarged and twisted, often appearing as a buldging, blue blood vessel that is clearly visible through the skin. Materials and Methods: Pre-experimental one group pre-test post-test design was adopted for the study. In this study 60 staff nurses who were working in critical care unit, general unit, OT and Accident & Emergency of Apollo Hospital, Guwahati, Assam were selected by using Non-probability simple random sampling technique. The tool used for the study were demographic variables and structured knowledge questionnaire. The analysis was done by using both descriptive and inferential statistics in terms of frequency distribution, percentage, mean, standard deviation, paired‘t’ test and chi-square. Result: The results showed that the post-test knowledge score was significantly higher than of pre-test knowledge score as evidenced by t=24.89 (p<0.05), which showed that there was effectiveness of Information Booklet regarding varicose vein and its prevention. It also revealed that there was no significant association between the pre-test knowledge score regarding varicose vein and its prevention among the staff nurses and the selected demographic variables. Conclusion: A similar study can be under taken on large scale for better generalization. On the basis of the findings, the researcher concluded that there was an effectiveness of Information Booklet regarding varicose vein and its prevention among the staff nurses.
