Abstract
The paper tries to explain the nature of superhero films with the context of Gerard Genette’s Transtextuality. With the specific example of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the paper argues that the two traditionally separate superheroes were brought together by signing into the previous films of these independent superheroes. This makes the film a bricolage of various incidents. More specifically, the paper explores Architextuality, Paratextuality, Hypotextuality, and Metatextuality, through the example of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
