Abstract
In the Senufo country, man is the result of a religious dimension in addition to his biological origin that the new sciences grant him. The causes of his illness and death are sometimes natural or supernatural. In this mixed atmosphere of physics and metaphysics based on beliefs, representations, perceptions, etc., the use of LLINs is struggling to be effective. The objective of this research is to understand the explanations relating to the low rate of LLIN use in this part of Côte d'Ivoire which is 29.6% in children under five (5) years of age, far behind the neighboring area of Boundiali where the rate is 42.4% (CDR, 2009). Several behaviors or objects contribute to the understanding of this difficulty, but only the socio-cultural factors constituted our center of interest. This choice comes from the knowledge of the Senufo people as a society invested in cults, rites, cultural initiations, etc., and attached to their culture. The conduct of these cultural activities which occupies a good time of Senufo is recognized as an obstacle to the use of LLINs as well as other objects deemed inappropriate. This reluctance of populations to use the LLIN, perceived through the speeches recorded during a qualitative survey, is crowned by their perception of the origin of malaria which has no link with the mosquito. The spiritual origin attributed to the disease and the practice of institutional cultural activities edify the community to immediately exclude new prevention methods such as LLIN in the fight against malaria.
