Abstract
Do Bigha Zamin (meaning two acres of land) is a 1953 Hindi film. The film is known for its socialist theme, inspired by Italian neo-realistic cinema, an important film in the early parallel cinema of India. This article deals with the sociological reading of the Hindi cinema: Do Bigha Zamin. This film portrayed the socio-politico and economic crisis during the era. Some major issues of 1950s have been portrayed in two parts: the problems of rural India such the problems of peasants, rural economy, Landowner - Peasant relationship, land reforms in first part, second part deals with the problems of urban India. The narrative and audio-video analysis has been used as tools to read this film.
