Abstract
Touchless and gesture-based interfaces have emerged as innovative alternatives to traditional input methods, offering intuitive and hygienic interaction with digital systems. This paper explores the evolution, technologies, applications, and challenges of gesture-based interfaces, focusing on research conducted during their formative development period. The study highlights key advancements in computer vision, depth-sensing cameras, and machine learning that enabled gesture recognition systems. Additionally, it discusses real-world implementations in gaming, healthcare, automotive systems, and public displays, along with usability and technical challenges.
