Abstract
This meta-analysis examines the influence of the family environment on the academic achievement of adolescents, synthesizing findings from 20 research studies published prior to 2021. The study identifies key family environment factors, such as parental involvement, socio-economic status, family structure, and parenting styles, that significantly impact adolescent academic performance. A total of 20 studies, including both cross-sectional and longitudinal designs, were analysed to calculate pooled effect sizes and to assess the moderating variables such as parental education, family communication, and socio-economic status. The findings suggest that a positive family environment, characterized by high levels of parental support and engagement, significantly enhances academic outcomes. The analysis further reveals that socio-economic status and family structure act as important moderators, with children from two-parent families and higher socio-economic backgrounds generally exhibiting better academic performance. These results emphasize the need for a supportive family environment in fostering academic success among adolescents, highlighting implications for both educational policies and family-centered interventions.
