Abstract
The present study aimed to investigate the level of self-understanding among tribal and non-tribal adolescents. A total of 400 adolescents, comprising both tribal and non-tribal participants, were randomly selected from two districts of Tripura, South Tripura and Gomati. The respondents, aged between 14 and 21 years, were assessed using the Self-Understanding Scale (SUS) developed by Akther Banoo and Sushmaa Talesera (2014). Data analysis was performed through statistical techniques including frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test. The findings revealed significant differences in the levels of self-understanding between tribal and non-tribal adolescents. Notably, non-tribal adolescents exhibited higher levels of self-understanding compared to their tribal counterparts. This study contributes to the understanding of how socio-cultural factors influence the development of self-awareness during adolescence and highlights the need for targeted interventions to promote self-understanding among tribal adolescents.
