Abstract
Dover Beach, by Mathew Arnold, is a dramatic monologue lamenting the lose of true Christian faith in England during the mid 1800 as science captured the minds of the public. The poem, expresses a crisis of faith with the speaker acknowledging the diminished stand of Christianity. It represents the clash between science and religion. This poem opens on a beautiful naturalistic scene. The poet (speaker) stand on the cliff of the Dover Beach. He is gazing out at the majesty of the beauty of nature. The descriptions of sea and the sound of the pebble on the beach are lyrically beautiful.
