Abstract
There is clear evidence that parents can and do influence children. There is equally clear evidence that children’s genetic makeup affects their own behavioural characteristics, and also influences the way they are treated by their parents. Parents who back their children make a difference in school success by helping develop an appropriate mind-set, motivation, and self-discipline at school. Disengaged parents promote school failures and are helping create a generation of children who are less well-educated than they are.
The results show that autonomy, parental involvement and warmth are significant predictors for academic achievement. There was a significantly positive relationship between parents' firm parenting style and students' career path. This research work focused on the effect of poor parenting on children and their education in Govt. High School Mahmand, Bilaspur District, Chhattisgarh. And it was found that the level of education of parents, their socio-economic status, their relationship with their children, the structure of the home a child grows in have either negative or positive influence on the children’s life and academic performance. Questionnaires were used to collect the information which were administered to some students in this school. Simple percentage was used to analyse the data obtained. The result showed that all factors investigated have impact on the life and success of education of students. We recommended: parents should always check and supervise their children’s work at home so as to detect their weak points. Parents should provide adequate school materials for their children to study with and spend more time with them.
