Abstract
The objective of this study was to measure the extent and nature of crop diversification in Rajasthan's different districts. Data collected from 39 years of time series were used to analyze the data. Separate analysis was carried out to compare the degree of crop diversification during the period between 1980 and 1995 and between 1996 and 2014. The diversification index was used by the researchers to measure changes in the area under cultivation during the various periods of the study. The data collected from different districts of Rajasthan revealed that during the first period, the degree of crop diversification was moderate. In the second period, it was observed that the region had a complete diversification. The values of herfindhal index ranged from 0.28 to 0.31. The index value for the remaining districts of Rajasthan was between 0.08 and 0.33. It indicated that the region's crop diversification had been complete during the first two periods of the study, except for the Dungarpur district. During the second period, the diversification index has been increased to moderate. The results of the study revealed that the newly added district of Karauli showed a complete diversification during the second period. The highest value of herfindha index was recorded in Barmer and Jaisalmer. On the other hand, the lowest value of herfindha index was observed in Bundi.
