Abstract
Pediculosis capitis is widely endemic, especially in children. It is a cause of some concern in public health. Nurses have an important role in the management of Pediculosis capitis by conducting educative programmes especially in villages. This study attempts to determine the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding domiciliary management of Pediculosis capitis among the mothers of school children in a selected rural community, Bangalore. The study involved one group pre-test and post-test using quasi-experimental design, with non-probability convenience sampling technique. 60 mothers of school children were made to mark the structured questionnaire followed by implementation of STP and post-test conducted after 8 days, using the same structured questionnaire. The overall mean percentage knowledge score in the pre-test was 36.8% and in the post-test 74.84%. The computed paired ‘t’ value of 30.4 indicates that enhancement in the mean percentage knowledge score was found to be significant at 5 percent level for all the aspects under study. There was a significant association between the pre-test knowledge and all the selected demographic variables except with occupation, type of family and the treatment given.
