Abstract
The study aimed to investigate Olympian Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, as an athlete and her personality. Data was collected from primary and secondary sources, including personal records, interviews, and published materials. A survey method was used to gather information about Saikhom Mirabai Chanu from 30 selected coaches/ her parents, contemporary athletes, and educators nationwide. Analysis found that she won the silver medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics with a total lift of 202 kg. She was also honoured with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award and the Padma Shri Award in 2018. Analysis of personality questionnaire results found that Group A: 49.00% and 33.67%, Group B: 41.67% and 37.33%, and Group C: 41.67% and 32%, strongly agreed and agreed respectively. Saikhom Mirabai Chanu is perceived to have a pleasant, health-conscious personality, regular exercise habits, composure, patience, and a friendly attitude. The athlete questionnaire results showed the following percentages of Group A - 52.67% & 33%; Group B - 49.67% & 35.67%; and Group C - 45.33% & 39% strongly agreed and agreed respectively. The statement reflects the athlete's belief in prioritizing teamwork and playing well over winning, never arguing with coaches and serving as a role model for other weightlifters.
