Abstract
Public libraries in Haryana are undergoing a crucial digital transformation to remain relevant and accessible in the contemporary information landscape. This paper examines the key initiatives driving this shift, notably the e-Granthkosh portal, a central digital library offering vast e-resources including academic materials and competitive exam preparation content, and the widespread implementation of e-libraries in government schools and colleges under the Samagra Shiksha program. These efforts aim to broaden access to knowledge, foster digital literacy, and provide an enriched learning experience, moving beyond the physical limitations of traditional libraries. However, the journey is fraught with challenges. Significant hurdles include chronic underfunding, a dearth of adequately trained library staff, persistent disparities in digital infrastructure and internet connectivity, particularly in rural areas, and the ongoing need to address varying levels of digital literacy among the population. To effectively harness the potential of the digital age and fulfill their role as vital community resources, Haryana's public libraries necessitate sustained investment in technology, comprehensive professional development for librarians, and strategic collaborations to build a truly inclusive and adaptive library system.
