Abstract
This study was carried out in the rural commune of Simiri in south-west Niger, where the restoration of degraded silvopastoral land through the construction of anti-erosion structures followed by biological treatment, including the planting of woody species, has been the preferred method of combating land degradation. The aim of this study is to evaluate the growth of the Eucalyptus camaldulensis species in half-moons and benches. The methodology adopted was based on the collection of dendrometric data. The results showed that the survival rate of Eucalyptus camaldulensis was 63.4% in the half-moons, compared with 53.51% in the benches.
Individuals in the 12-18 cm trunk circumference class are the most numerous (48.86%) in the half-moons. In the benches, trunk circumference classes between 18 and 24 cm, then over 30 cm, dominate with 27% and 24.81% respectively. In terms of height, individuals in the 3 to 5 m class account for 57.68% of half-moons. In the benches, individuals in the 4 to 5 m and 7 to 8 m height classes have the highest numbers, corresponding to 20.41% and 17.51% respectively. The present study shows that Eucalyptus camaldulensis has grown more in circumference and height on the benches than on the half-moons.
