Abstract
Indian traditional medicine has long used Stellaria media Linn. (Caryophyllaceae). There have been reports that the plant is highly helpful in treating inflammations of the respiratory, reproductive, digestive, and kidney systems. Its other qualities include diuretic, expectorant, anxiolytic, and anti-asthmatic. Despite a lengthy history of use, this promising plant has not been the subject of any systematic phytochemical or pharmacological research. Total ash, acid insoluble ash, ethanol soluble extractive and water soluble extractive values were 11.27±0.19, 2.07±0.09, 6.32±0.07, 37.72±0.21% w/w respectively.
