Abstract
The present study explores institutional rituals with a special emphasis on the school assembly. It delineates the significance of the assembly in the structure of the school day, as well as its relation with other school processes at an individual and collective level. Different categories of schools were engaged with, wherein the manner in which the assembly figures in the teaching learning process was explored. The methodology included research tools, such as, school observations and interviews of learners. The interpretation of data through an analytical lens brought forth novel perspectives of understanding the unique place that the assembly holds within the precincts of the institution. The study underscores the potential of the assembly for nurturing a positive school ethos. It also sheds light on the importance of forming meaningful connections between the assembly and the school curriculum.
