Abstract
The study aimed to assess the socio-economic effects of pastoral half-moon techniques and dune stabilization on the living conditions of populations in the villages of Dara Amadou, Kouroungoussaou, and Angué in the Maradi region of Niger. The methodology was based on individual and group interviews, with a sample representing 30% of the population. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS, R, and Excel; chi-square tests were used to examine relationships between categorical variables, and a probit model was applied to evaluate impacts. The results demonstrated a reduction in vulnerability among beneficiary populations, with improvements in food security observed among 19.80% of respondents in Angué, 53.54% in Dara Amadou, and 13.75% in Kouroungoussaou. The study also revealed job creation and increased incomes through the "Cash for Work" (CFW) program, benefiting 19.60% and 18.52% of Angué residents, 3.03% and 29.29% in Dara Amadou, and 17.21% and 16.20% in Kouroungoussaou, respectively. Additionally, some respondents reported a decrease in migration rates, with figures of 19.61% in Angué, 4.01% in Dara Amadou, and 17.5% in Kouroungoussaou. Furthermore, 19.83% of respondents noted improved social cohesion in Angué, 3.03% in Dara Amadou, and 6.25% in Kouroungoussaou. An increase in animal-favored forage was also observed, reported by 0.46% of respondents in Angué, 6.06% in Dara Amadou, and 17.5% in Kouroungoussaou.
