Abstract
This research dives into the important dangers associated with the abuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI) via online platforms, with an emphasis on the potential risk of supposedly innocent internet activity. Though the convenience that AI offers is unmatched in almost every industry, the other side of the coin is serious violations of personal data, increased cybercrime, and ethical dilemmas stemming from the misuse of technology. Many Indian internet users unwittingly expose themselves with a single click, leading to serious compromise of personal digital information. With the accelerated adoption of breakthroughs in AI technologies come new-age cybercrimes such as deepfakes and AI-generated Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), as well as digital sexual offenses through image morphing - underscoring the sinister possibilities of AI-powered innovation. At the same time, creativity tools, such as AI-based photo and video editors, are being abused to undermine privacy and trust. While these technologies have generated greater efficiency and creativity, they open up new vulnerabilities, especially when users have no awareness of their potential consequences.
This paper also underscores the misuse of AI in surveillance, targeted advertising, and automated decision-making, which increasingly blur the line between convenience and intrusion. This research examines global trends and examples from India to show how these problems affect society. It advocates for robust regulatory frameworks and ethical AI practices to ensure that technological progress does not come at the cost of individual freedom and security.
