Abstract
Background: Volleyball is the most popular game in the world. It requires speed and jumping, coordination, and balance to help in many specific actions like movement, receiving, setting, spiking, and blocking, therefore players should have good balance and agility. The balance and agility levels are two major aspects of training as well as requirements for volleyball players. The Tabata training and core strengthening training assessment have been largely publicized, but very few studies have quantitatively demonstrated its effectiveness among collegiate volleyball players with enhancements in balance and agility levels.
Objective: To compare the effectiveness of Tabata training and core strength training protocol to improve the agility and dynamic balance levels among male collegiate volleyball players.
Methods: The study design is Quasi-Experimental, A Convenience Sampling with 60 collegiate volleyball players of age ranging from 18 to 25 years were chosen and put into two groups. Group A got the Tabata training for 8 weeks and Group B got the Core training for 8 weeks.
Outcome Measure: Y-Balance Test (YBT) to evaluate the balance level, and T-test to evaluate the agility level.
Results: Individual training protocol has significantly improved the dynamic balance and agility. However, the Post-test values of YBT and Agility T-test have p values<0.05 which is significant within the groups but while comparing both groups p values>0.05 which is not significant.
Conclusion: The study concludes that there is no significant difference between Tabata training and core strengthening training on agility and dynamic balance.
