Numerical solution of two-dimensional Laplace equation in electrostatics

Abstract
In this paper, two dimensional Poisson’s and Laplace’s equations are solved numerically to obtain the steady state potential distribution over rectangular domain with Dirichlet boundary conditions. Finite difference method is used to solve partial differential equation. Scilab, an open-source software, is used for numerical computation of the problem. Numerical solution is also compared with analytical solution.
