Abstract
The present study aimed to assess the mental health knowledge and attitudes of adolescents toward individuals living with mental illness. A total of 100 students from a school in Almora, Uttarakhand, participated, comprising 50 male and 50 female adolescents. Standardized tools were used to measure mental health knowledge and attitudes. Analysis of the data revealed that female adolescents demonstrated higher levels of mental health knowledge and more favorable attitudes toward individuals with mental illness compared to male adolescents. Additionally, a weak positive relationship was observed between mental health knowledge and attitudes, suggesting that greater knowledge may contribute slightly to more accepting attitudes, though the association was not strong. These findings highlight the importance of promoting mental health literacy among adolescents, particularly male students, and underscore the need for interventions that not only improve knowledge but also actively target attitudes and stigma toward mental illness.
