Abstract
Differently abled women constitute one of the most marginalised segments of the labour market, experiencing multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination linked to gender, disability, and socio-economic disadvantage. While employment is vital for autonomy, social inclusion, and self-worth, women with disabilities continue to face systemic exclusion from meaningful work opportunities. Global evidence shows that persons with disabilities encounter widespread discrimination in employment, and for women, these barriers are magnified by gendered biases, restrictive social norms, and limited accessibility. As a result, many differently abled women internalise perceptions of unemployability and remain confined to the domestic sphere. This study investigates the workplace challenges encountered by differently abled women in Kerala, identifying the structural, attitudinal, and institutional barriers that shape their labour market participation.
