AbstractIndustrial development plays a significant role in shaping the socio-economic conditions of workers. While industries contribute to national growth, the working men employed in these sectors often encounter various challenges that affect their livelihood, well-being, and overall quality of life. This sociological study examines the conditions of working men in the Kuduremukha Industrial Area of Chikkamagaluru District, with a focus on understanding their problems, socio-economic background, working environment, and coping mechanisms.
The study aims to analyze the major issues faced by industrial workers, such as job insecurity, wage-related concerns, occupational health risks, workplace safety, social security measures, housing facilities, and employer–employee relations. It also explores how factors like education, skill level, migration, family structure, and social support systems influence the workers’ experiences.
Using both primary data (interviews, questionnaires, and observations) and secondary data (reports, records, and published research), the study provides a comprehensive understanding of the socio-economic and cultural dimensions of industrial work. The findings highlight the need for improved welfare measures, better workplace policies, and stronger institutional support to ensure the overall development and dignity of industrial workers.
This research contributes to sociological knowledge by offering insights into the everyday realities of working men in a developing industrial region and suggests recommendations for policymakers, industries, and labour welfare organizations.
