Dyslipidemia is a well-established risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), necessitating therapeutic strategies beyond conventional lipid-lowering agents. Guatteria gaumeri, a homeopathic plant extract, has been traditionally recognized for its potential lipid-modulating properties. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Guatteria gaumeri as an add-on therapy in dyslipidemic patients receiving constitutional homeopathic treatment and literature review.
A randomized open-label clinical trial was conducted over 12 months at two homeopathic hospitals in Jaipur, enrolling 98 participants. Patients were randomly divided into two groups:
· Control Group: Received only constitutional homeopathic treatment.
· Intervention Group (Control + Guatteria gaumeri): Received constitutional treatment along with Guatteria gaumeri extract.
Lipid profile parameters, including triglycerides (TG), LDL-C, HDL-C, non-HDL-C, and the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio, were assessed at baseline and post-treatment. The control group exhibited no significant improvements, whereas the Guatteria gaumeri group demonstrated statistically significant reductions in TG, LDL-C, non-HDL-C, and the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio, with a notable increase in HDL-C levels.
These findings suggest that Guatteria gaumeri may serve as a promising add-on therapeutic option for dyslipidemia. However, further placebo-controlled trials are warranted to establish its efficacy and mechanisms of action.
