Abstract
Fish represent a significant category within Superclass Pisces, subphylum Vertebrata, and division Gnathostomata, and are highly valuable for biological research. The current investigation of ichthyofaunal diversity in Churasi Bandha, GPM district, was conducted from July 2023 to April 2024, over a duration of 10 months. Fish are crucial for biodiversity. Consequently, in the current study, fish specimens were gathered and classified. The objective of this study was to elucidate the diversity of fish species in this bandha. The diverse fish obtained from this bandha comprise 18 species, 11 genera, 5 orders, and 8 families, all of which are notably common. The family Cyprinidae was identified as the most prevalent. Six species were documented, with the second most abundant family, Ophiocephalidae, comprising three species. Additionally, the Bagridae family included two species, Centropomidae also contained two species, Clariidae had one species, Heteropneustidae recorded one species, Notopteridae encompassed two species, and Siluridae featured one species during this survey. The genera Channa and Cyprinus were more numerous than other genera. No documentary evidence exists concerning the freshwater fish fauna of the current study region to date. This study documents the diversity of freshwater fish in Churasi Bandha.
