Abstract
This paper focuses on the recognition of words in connected speech within the field of acoustic phonetics. Speech recognition mostly relies on audio input, although it has the potential to incorporate visual information as well. Visual word recognition is employed in pedagogical contexts to evaluate the phonetic transcription awareness of English second language learners.
