Abstract
Mysore Anche, the indigenous postal system of the princely state of Mysore, functioned as a symbol of efficient local governance and regional identity. This paper explores its evolution from its establishment under Chikkadevaraja Wodeyar (1670–1704) to its eventual integration into the British Imperial Postal System in 1889. The study highlights the resistance of Mysore state authorities against British attempts to consolidate control over communication networks, focusing on the political and economic motives behind the transition. The research draws on official correspondence between the Mysore Commissioner and British postal authorities or a mechanism to consolidate colonial power.
