Abstract
The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is a pivotal reform document that envisions a transformative path for education in India. By incorporating Indian Knowledge System (IKS) like Ayurveda, Yoga, Vedas, and traditional arts and crafts into the curriculum, the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 seeks to promote holistic development among the learners of the 21st century. IKS can foster an inclusive, culturally aware approach to education while preserving India's intellectual legacy. Achieving excellence in knowledge, abilities, and competencies is the primary goal of higher education. The precondition for integrating IKS in NEP 2020 is to balance conventional wisdom and modern pedagogy. The Gurukul system and the renowned "Nalanda and Takshashila Universities" were part of the value-based education system in ancient India. Brilliant figures like Sushrut, Aryabhatta, Panini, and Chanakya set an example for the globe in ancient Bharat. The decimal system, the great Sanskrit epics, and the contributions to astronomy, mathematics, and metallurgy were the three main educational advancements of that era. Integrating the Indian Knowledge System (IKS), a repository of traditional and indigenous knowledge, in higher education offers both unique perspectives and challenges. IKS places a strong emphasis on sustainable development concepts and has its roots in ancient Indian philosophy, medicine, mathematics, linguistics, and ecological awareness. This paper will try to investigate the integration of Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) into educational curricula, stressing its significance in promoting sustainability, balancing tradition and modernity, ensuring inclusivity, maintaining academic rigor, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
