Abstract
Modular fashion is an innovative concept in the fashion industry that emphasizes adaptability, functionality, and customization by creating garments and accessories with interchangeable or detachable components. This approach allows consumers to reconfigure their wardrobe to suit different occasions, seasons, or preferences, promoting longevity and reducing consumption. Existing examples in the market include garments with detachable sleeves, multi-functional outerwear, and reversible clothing, all designed to offer versatility and extend the lifecycle of fashion products. While these advancements align with sustainability goals, they often rely on new fabrics or materials, which still contribute to resource extraction and environmental impact.
This study explores an alternative approach to sustainable modular fashion by shifting the focus from using new fabrics and materials to upcycling textile waste, deadstock fabrics, and discarded garments. By repurposing these materials into modular designs, multi-functional products. The proposed framework addresses the dual challenges of textile waste reduction and resource efficiency. Upcycling not only diverts waste from landfills but also uses these materials with new value and purpose, reducing the environmental footprint of modular fashion.
This research introduces new innovative modular designs and manufacturing techniques that highlight the potential of upcycled materials in creating adaptable, stylish, and sustainable products. This approach promotes a circular fashion economy, where waste is reimagined as a resource, fostering minimalism and encouraging consumers to embrace sustainable fashion choices. By integrating modularity with upcycling, this research aims to redefine the future of fashion, merging creative design with environmental responsibility. This model offers a scalable solution for reducing textile waste and demonstrates how sustainable modular fashion can evolve into a practical and impactful industry standard.
