Comparison of lecture method and concept mapping method of teaching on knowledge

AbstractIntroduction: Lecture method is one of the oldest methods used in classroom by teachers to impact knowledge to the students whereas concept map is schematic representation of is schematic representation of the meaningful relationship between the concepts.
Materials and Methods: A comparative study conducted among 120 nursing students, who were selected by convenience sampling technique. Data was collected using structured knowledge questionnaire on Peptic Ulcer disease and Intestinal Obstruction.
Results: The mean knowledge score of lecture method was 11.02 and the mean knowledge score of concept mapping method was 13.5. It reveals that though, both the methods of teaching is effective in improving knowledge, Concept mapping is more effective than the lecture method of teaching.
Conclusion: It is concluded that, though both the methods of teaching were effective in improving knowledge, concept mapping is more effective in improving knowledge than the lecture method of teaching.
