Abstract
Poverty reduction has been the highest development priority for governments in the least developed countries, especially since the early 2000s. The ambitious goal of the Indian Government's 12th Five-Year Plan is to increase the percentage of skilled women in India. To achieve the Government's 12th Five-Year Plan, socially, more significant efforts are required to include and amplify women's voices throughout the process. Women must become empowered through vocational training to become active contributors to society. As skilled-based education is provided to women, equitable access to vocational-based education can increase national human capital, thereby ensuring holistic and sustainable development. VET and skill development are significant tools for poverty reduction. In India, VET programs are used to help Indigenous women preserve their traditional knowledge, education, and livelihood despite colonization and development. TVET greatly aids the creation of a more inclusive and culturally sensitive learning environment. It shows a remarkable step toward creating a more inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment. This paper specifically investigates TVET's contribution in enhancing the livelihoods of rural populations, with a particular focus on Indigenous youth. Such educational practices contribute toward promoting economic Empowerment and sustainable livelihoods. It helps promote women's economic potential through vocational training and skill education programs rooted in indigenous practices. In view of recent research focusing on vocational education, gender studies, and sustainable development, this paper critically analyses existing programs and will identify key aspects contributing to women's success. This paper will contribute to acknowledging and appreciating the Indigenous knowledge and skills of women in the formulation of vocational training programs. This paper highlights the lack of women's Empowerment in rural areas in India, with all-around skill development for women in employment opportunities. The findings of the paper will have significant implications for policymakers, educators, and development practitioners seeking to promote women's economic Empowerment and sustainable livelihood.
