Abstract
In the fast-paced urban environment, the demand for Paying Guest (PG) accommodations has significantly increased, especially among students and working professionals migrating from various parts of the country in pursuit of education and career opportunities. The traditional process of finding suitable PGs—through brokers, classifieds, or word of mouth—is often time-consuming, unreliable, and inefficient. This research aims to bridge the gap between PG owners and potential tenants by proposing and developing a robust, secure, and user-friendly web-based PG Accommodation Management System that streamlines the process of PG discovery, booking, and management in urban areas.
The primary objective of the system is to provide a digital platform that enables seamless interaction between PG owners and seekers. The platform allows users to register, log in securely, search for PG accommodations based on multiple filters such as location, budget, amenities, and availability, and then book their preferred option directly through the system. PG owners can register their properties, upload relevant details including images and pricing, manage availability, and monitor booking requests. Admin users can oversee system activities, verify listings, and resolve disputes, thereby maintaining the credibility and trustworthiness of the platform.
From a technical standpoint, the system is designed using modern web development technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript (for the frontend), React and Node.js with Express.js for backend operations. Data persistence and management are handled by supabase, ensuring structured storage of user and listing data. Security features such as hashed passwords, role-based access control, secure session handling, and input validation are incorporated to safeguard user data and prevent unauthorized access. Additionally, the platform is integrated with real-time notification systems and payment gateways, enabling users to receive instant booking confirmations and make online transactions securely.
The system is designed to be fully responsive, making it accessible across various devices such as desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. Furthermore, the platform includes user review and rating modules to help future tenants make informed decisions based on the experiences of previous users. Data analytics tools can be embedded in future phases to monitor usage patterns, popular locations, peak booking times, and customer preferences, providing valuable insights for PG owners to enhance service quality.
This project not only contributes to the field of computer science by demonstrating the practical application of full-stack web development, database management, and software engineering principles but also addresses a real-world problem with a viable, scalable solution. By automating and digitizing the PG accommodation process, the proposed system enhances efficiency, transparency, and convenience, thereby benefiting both tenants and property owners. The study concludes with performance evaluations, user feedback analysis, and potential enhancements, including the future integration of AI-powered recommendations and mobile app development to further extend accessibility and personalization.
