The committee system and law making process in the Nigerian senate 2011-2023

Abstract
Legislative Assemblies carries out their statutory functions through committees created by them. A few of the committees are special while a host of others are standing/ permanent that last throughout the life span of the Assembly. Committees apply the same tools available to the legislature in execution of assigned duties. Committees of the Legislative Assemblies derive its powers from the constitution and from the Standing Orders and Terms of References as may be applicable in setting it up. Committees cannot take decision that binds the general house despite its numerous function, the recommendations of the committees’ are subject to the approval or otherwise by the Assembly. The scope of this study is on the legislative activities of the Nigerian Senate 2011-2023 in the law making process. Data were collected through primary and secondary sources and content analysis applied. At a glance, one is expected to understand what functions and limits of committees of the legislature.
