Abstract
The aim of this study was to compare the levels of Emotional Quotient (EQ) and Self-Esteem among Millennials (born 1981-1996) and Generation Z (born 1997-2012), as well as to investigate the correlation between these two psychological constructs within each generation. A quantitative, cross-sectional, and comparative research approach was utilized to collect data from 100 individuals, 50 from each age category. Standardized self-report measures like the Schutte Self-Report Emotional Intelligence Test (SSEIT) and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) were used to assess EQ and self-esteem, respectively. The Jamovi program was used to conduct statistical studies such as Independent Samples t-tests and Pearson correlation coefficients. The results showed no statistically significant differences in EQ (t (98) = 0.399, p=.691) or Self-Esteem (t (98) = 0.376, p=.708) between the two generations, implying similar emotional and self-evaluative profiles. However, there was a slight, statistically significant positive association between EQ and self-esteem among Millennials (r=.340, p=.016), while no significant relationship was detected for Generation Z (r=.081, p=.577). These data suggest that, while EQ and self-esteem levels are comparable across generations, the relationship between the two varies, with Millennials demonstrating a higher correlation between emotional intelligence and self-worth. The study extends to the developing subject of generational psychology and has practical implications for emotional intelligence development in education and the workplace. It also emphasizes the need for additional research into the social and psychological factors that may influence generational disparities in EQ and self-esteem.
