Abstract

Introduction: The alcohol is called ethanol (ethyl alcohol). A drink which is made from yeast ferments the sugars in grains, fruits and vegetables. Alcoholism and chronic use of alcohol are associated with numerous medical, social, family problems and mental health. Family members exposed to a first-degree relative's alcohol dependence problem are at risk for many problems. Drinking or consumption of alcohol is becoming fashion and trends in various occasions, parties and events. Every college going girls have curiosity to experience alcohol and its effects, which leading to ill effects, addiction and which may also leads to downfalls in their education performance.

Materials and Methods: The conducted study was adopted by using quantitative research approach with descriptive research design. Convenient sampling techniques were used to obtain the sample which consists of 150 girls of Pratiksha Group of Institute, Guwahati. The structured knowledge questionnaire and structured likert scale on attitude regarding the effect of use of alcohol were used as tools for data collection.

Results: The mean knowledge regarding the effect of use of alcohol was 9.38 and the mean of attitude regarding the effect of use of alcohol was 52.88. Among the 150 sample, 43 (29%) of them are having good knowledge, 101 (67%) are having average knowledge and 6 (4%) are having poor knowledge regarding the effect of use of alcohol. With regards to attitude, 111 (74%) of them are having positive attitude, 27 (18%) of them are having neutral attitude and 12 (8%) of them are having negative attitude regarding the effect of use of alcohol. There is no significant correlation (r = -0.069) between knowledge and attitude regarding the effect of use of alcohol.

Conclusion: The present study was to evaluate the girls at Pratiksha Group of Institute in Guwahati's, knowledge and attitudes about the effects of alcohol use, as well as the link between these two variables across the females. The majority of females had an average degree of knowledge and a good attitude about the effects of alcohol usage, according to the findings and analysis.
