Abstract
The first three decades of the workers’ movement in Jamshedpur saw many highs and lows. Each phase had the imprint of one particular ideology, being that of the Congress or the Communists. The period of early 1930s, however, is marked by a general feeling of dismay, disorder and lack of enthusiasm. This allowed the management to make inroads among the workers by establishing a union, Metal Workers Union, that had its support.
