This paper explores the profound impact of colonial and post-colonial legacies on English language education and literary expression in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Tracing the historical trajectory of English education from the colonial era to the present, we delve into the socio-cultural, linguistic, and pedagogical implications of British colonial rule on the educational landscape of Maharashtra. “The colonial period witnessed the introduction of English as a medium of instruction, transforming it into a symbol of elite status and intellectual prowess.
