th centuries is examined in this essay, with particular attention paid to their social, economic, and political standing. Women were expected to adhere to traditional gender roles at this time, with single women being seen as a burden and married women being expected to concentrate on household responsibilities. Women had few economic options, and they were prohibited from owning property and conducting business.
