Abstract
Introduction:Women’s empowerment can be defined to promoting women's sense of self-worth, their ability to determine their own choices, and their right to influence social change for themselves and others. The 5Cs of courage, confidence, communication, connections and career and how they can be used to support the success of women.
Aim of the study: To assess the knowledge on women empowerment among young adults.
Method & Material: This was a quantitative descriptive survey study of 150 samples aged 20 to 26 years both male and female. Non-probability purposive sampling technique was used for the selection of samples. To obtain necessary data for the study, the tool used for data collection was divided into section I - Demographic data, Section - II assessment for knowledge on women empowerment among young adults.
Results: Samples were young adults from age group of 20 to 26 years, 37% Male &, 63% female from different professional institutes and organizations. 42% of samples were aware about women empowerment, where as 85% of young adults are supporting women in their family. 79% of young adults said Indian women is empowered whereas 21% answered no. 83% samples answered meaning of women empowerment is, all round development of women, provide the freedom to women empowerment is the right of the women, to be independent and superior as equal to men, women empowerment is nothing but accepting women's perspective in all areas, independent decision making.Majority of samples i.e. 72% highlighted qualities of women in their family like qualities of mother, grandmother, sister & aunt were Caring, multitasking, problem solving, supporter, Majority of samples highlighted Indian women’s problems i.e. 71% lack of education, Gender discrimination, Insecurities, financial instability, gender inequality, Disparity in education, Inadequate Nutrition, Low status in the family, responsibilities for household works.
Conclusion: Assessment of a knowledge among young adults on women empowerment will make clear understanding and awareness about concept of women empowerment, benefits, areas women empowerment and their problems which will help them to empower women who has vital role as Mother, sister, aunt, grandmother & wife.
